Food safety is Lerøy’s highest priority. Our products must be healthy, safe to eat, and of high quality. We have an extensive quality system that covers the entire value chain, from roe to finished product.
To ensure this, we have among other things:
- Full control of the entire value chain: from aquaculture and fisheries to processing and distribution.
- Strict hygiene and maintenance requirements in all our factories, with daily cleaning and disinfection.
- Extensive analysis and sampling programs that document that the products are safe to eat. Product recall within 4 hours if deviations occur.
- Full traceability at every stage, from origin to finished product.
- Third-party audits from DNV and inspections from the Norwegian Food Safety Authority and customers, both announced and unannounced.
- Strict control barriers: Several control barriers are established throughout the value chain to ensure that only fish suitable for human consumption moves forward to the market. Fish not suitable for human consumption is ensiled and used for bioenergy and animal feed.
Production fish is a natural part of aquaculture production. Production fish can be good fish as long as it meets the requirements for quality and food safety. Visible injuries or deviations are corrected in Norway before the fish is sent to market, and Lerøy follows all applicable laws and regulations.
We work systematically to deliver safe and sustainable seafood. Our routines, audits, and quality systems ensure that every fish we deliver meets the requirements for food safety and quality. Through continuous improvement and documented processes, we ensure that seafood from Lerøy maintains the highest standard, respecting the fish, the environment, and the consumer.
Lerøy’s goal is to create the world’s most efficient and sustainable seafood value chain. We invest continuously in technology and competence to ensure that our seafood maintains the highest standards for fish welfare, quality, food safety, and sustainability. At the same time, we work closely with authorities and local communities to ensure that our operations protect nature, society, and consumers.
